Work Undertaken in the Sex and Race Discrimination Areas

WHAT DO WE DO?

Provide advice on the vulnerability of payment structures to the taint of sex, race and other types of discrimination. This includes;

  • The provision of expert advice to either party to an equal value claim.
  • Assessing whether job evaluation schemes are tainted by sex, race and/or other types of discrimination;
  • Preparing equal value reports for submission to an Employment Tribunal; and.
  • Giving oral evidence to an Employment Tribunal.
  • In addition we undertake research, and publish books and articles on job evaluation and various type of discrimination.

Projects undertaken

The following is a sample of research and advisory projects undertaken on various aspects of gender and race discrimination.

Mineworkers Union of Namibia. The preparation of a report for the Conciliation Board on the application of the job evaluation scheme at Rössing Uranium; an analysis of whether the salary structure was based on non-discriminatory grade differentials; and, an investigation of whether there was evidence of systematic discrimination in the distribution of pay.

Equal Opportunities Commissions for Great Britain and for Northern Ireland, trade unions and employers. Providing expert advice on various equal value cases. Assessing whether there is a reasonable case, preparing the Applicant's written submissions, appearing as an expert witness at the Tribunal hearing.
