Two Main definitions.

  • One Type of shift. A pattern of working time in which there is just one type of shift a day, and the work force is divided into two groups, one of whom permanently work the start of the week, the other the end of the week. For example in a discontinuous system providing 12hrs cover for 6 days a week, one team work Permanent (12hr) Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays the other work Permanent (12hr) Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Two Types of shift. A pattern of working time in which there are two shifts a day, and the work force is divided into two groups, one of whom permanently work one type of shift, and one the other. For example in a discontinuous system providing 16hrs cover for 5 days a week, one team work Permanent (8hr) Afternoons the other work Permanent (8hr) Mornings.
